Went up to shanghai for a quick trip a few weeks back, eventhough it was a quick one i still had loads of fun on it.

Went up on one of our 747-400 BCF freighters, as usual the weather up in PVG wasnt that good so we didnt see much of the landing. Before the flight departed HKG i got to walk around the plane n take loads of pics since the weather was great that day, u just dont believe how big a jumbo really is until ure stanging right next to it. It was noisy out there with jet engine all around u, the rumble n vibrations when a plane takes off just shakes u to the core. But during the duration of the flight we got to watch the normal procedures, on top of that we got to literally explore the upper deck and cargo hold while in mid-flight (The cargo hold was freezin tho).
As soon as i got to PVG had a meeting with the Cargo manager up there b4 lunch, after lunch had a tour of the airport from the superintendent of their airside staff after a meeting with them showing us the normal procedures of our crews on arrival Shanghai. It just make me wonder, Shanghai is one of the main airports in China but the security has abysmal. Eventhough the Shanghai Dragonair office applied a restricted area permit for me, the permit was basilally a piece of paper with my name and ID on it, there was no photo. I was never asked to show anyother ID n i just walked passed checkpoints. I guess thats what sets HK and China apart.

On the way back we jumped on one of our passenger flights, we were delayed out of PVG due ATC (how typical ), was a pretty normal flight with gorgeous flight attendents serving meals. Bout 30 minutes before landing i clipped on my KA staff card and asked the CP to inf the Captain that i would like to go onto the flight deck to watch the landing (at the time she had this puzzled look on her as none of the crews knew i was KA HQ staff on duty travel). After getting the OK from the Captain i just walked up the plane and into the flight deck, at this point i'm pretty sure the whole plane (passengers & crews) stared at me as i went in with utter clueless looks on their faces thinkin 'who the hell was that guy that just casually walked into the flight deck?". The landing into HKG was great, we had perfect weather and got to see every bit of the approach.

Eventhough i had to write several reports after i got back, this trip was fun. I'm just wonderin if i can go to Japan next time, i might even stay one or two nights even if i have to pay for it myself hahahaha.

Just realised how long i havent touched my xanga, been nearly 6 months i think. So just got back from another duty travel trip, was just a quick on this time tho. I swear that when i joined this company i never thought i would get all these different chances to travel around and experience the different cultures n best of all i on DT i get to travel Business n its paid for buy the company. Gotta head off to bed first, will edit once i get up.

Went out todaywith my babe, walked round MK for a bit doin a bit of window shopping b4 headin over to festie. Winter’s coming n seeing all the new fashion comin out I think I gotta go out shopping sometime, with that in mind I gotta start thinkin bout x’mas presents as well (so much to think and so much to buy).

Watched “Tales from Earthsea”, I gotta say the animation and effects were great although I couldn’t really follow the plot all the way. At times the story was contridicting and confusing, but then again what would u expect from a Japanese fim that’s translated into cantonese. Maybe this is what u call lost in translation…….

Watched Rob-B-Hood the other day with my girl, realized that the new Jackie Chan movies aren't all about action anymore. The new one have kinda got hidden messages n stuff in them, wonder if its coz he's getting old and cant think of any more dangerous/insane stunts to do anymore or what.
The baby in the movie was so cute, kinda gives u the urge to just reach out and pinch his cheeks hahahahaha.

I just realized how screwed up my roster is for this month, i'm mainly working overnight this month and on 3 days i work overnight and i have a day off the following day (but i only finish work at 8am) following this is early shift the next day. Damn screwed up pattern, the way they set the roster means u just cant adjust ur body clock in time n will most likely end up falling asleep the next day (u would expect the ppl making the rosters to have more common sense). Anyways its back to work for me now.......

26hrs in the office

Past few days have been quite fun/crazy. Out of the 4 freighters that we have 3 of them had problems. One was stuck in HKG, one in MAN and one in AMS. Normally when we have problems with one plane the work load is already enough to last 2 or 3 days, but this time we had 3 planes AOG. Rearranging crew duties and finding the correct commercial flights was quite a challenge.

On top of that the ppl working overnight shift for Freighter and Airbus had reported sick leaving only their disciples to work overnight. Under these circumstances i had to extend (when i started working at 1430) until the next morning i left at 0630 which by this time ive worked for bout 16hrs straight. Got off work at 0630 but i had to be back by 1430 the same day before working another 14 hours. I realised when ure concentrated on doing something u just dont feel tired, its when u finish work and leave that u finally realise how tired u are.
As i like to think of it, the more challenging it is the more rewarding it is when u get it done.

The Big Day

Went to work yesterday knowing the deal with Cathay has been finalized and wondering what changes are gonna occur or if the company is simply still gonna be there. When the shuttle arrived outside the building I was surprised to see loads of reporters standing outside the premises hoping to take a few shots or waiting for some pissed off employee to blow their heads to the press. Security was certainly beefed up, normally we only had 1 security in the reception/lobby but then there were 6 and they were checking everyone for their pass as u approached the lift. In addition they also had 2 guards on each floor right by the lifts. I would have been really surprised if any reporters managed to slip into our offices.

As I walked into the office my manager came up to me and handed me this white envelope with the words “CONFIDENTIAL” clearly marker in red. I stood there for a few seconds staring at it thinking to myself ‘gee personnel was surely quick this time’. As I opened the envelope expecting to find a letter saying I’m being let go due to the take over with all the usual bullshit I was relieved to find that its only a letter saying I’ve passes my probation (and this letter is actually a month late).

At this moment we still aren’t sure if our department is gonna be safe coz according to a memo by our CEO there might be further reductions due to company restructuring. So it looks like no one’s gonna be able to get a good night’s sleep for another few months. Damn I hate that stuttering SOB
